Originating in the 17th century in Italy, and later popularised in Seattle in the early 1980's, latte was widely spread only in the early 1990's. Since then thousands of latte variants were developed, including those replacing the coffee with another drink base such as spiced Indian tea, mate, matcha, turmeric, or rooibos and other types of milk, such as soy milk or almond milk are also used.
